Drums - Merit Blog Post #15

This week at drums we set the song that Im learning aside and I started to practice the beat that Im doing for the band. The song we are doing for the band is named "Hey Jude" by the Beatles. Thankfully the beat is a simple beat and was fast and easy to learn so when I was finished i could get back to learning my main song. So far I have gotten the main beat for the song down but I still need to clean it especially when I bring the high hat into it. The care value I showed at my drum lesson was Excellence because I new that after I learnt the band beat I had enough time to learn the main song before my time was up.

Going Around The Classrooms - Merit Blog Post #14

This week I have been going around the kakino and kauri classrooms explaining the rules of the bin challenge just incase people were getting confused, specifically the year 1s and 2s. We did this because some of the students were putting random scrap papers into the bins and sometimes even food scraps when we said in assembly that all we wanted in them were lunch scraps E.G plastic, glad wrap. The care value I showed while doing this was Active Thinking because i went around making sure everybody new what to do for the challenge so it would be easier to sort out when it finished.

Year 9/10 Writing

In writing I have been learning to use a wide range of punctuation appropriately and with increasing accuracy like . , ! ? “”
- colon :
- semi-colon ;
- hyphen -
- parentheses ( )
- brackets [ ]
- ellipses ...

I have been especially focusing on using parentheses and semi-colon. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.-

Hello and welcome to the most amazing, entertaining piece or writing you shall read in your entire life. I would recommend buckling up your seat belt, folks. Cause this is about to be an explosion of information! Here we go! How do you think a leader should act? Responsible? Yes. Honest? Of course. But how do we all get to this point? Those are the questions we will be answering right now.

Games with minimal or no equipment.

In PE we have been participating in a variety of games that require little or no equipment.
Below is the Matrix which shows our progression in this unit of learning.

Screen Shot 2017-03-12 at 12.32.06 PM.png

The table below shows my understanding of games with minimal or no equipment.
(Fill this table in, in as much detail as possible. )

Examples of Games that need minimal or no equipment.
What equipment would we usually need to play these games.
Why do we play games with minimal or no equipment?
- Octopus
- Invisible touch
- Tricky Tag
- Dodge Ball
- Bench Ball
-Tag
- Ball
- Cones
- Lining Of Some Sort
- Bat
- Bibs
So if for some reason we have to come up with a game quickly and don't have time to get equipment we always have something to work with.

My Strengths.
Some things that I have done well during this unit of learning are when we worked with the pals i cooperated because I new it was difficult for them.

My Next Steps.
Some things I could improve on when playing games with minimal or no equipment are Thinking on the spot Because I have trouble with that.

Presenting In Assembly The Buckets - Merit Blog Post #12

On Monday this week my fellow house captains and I introduced the bin challenge in the whole school assembly. Each pair had to present their side in front of everyone and all of us had a different part and then when we all added it together it explained the whole "Bin Challenge". Here is a link to the "Bin Challenge" slide if you want to have a look for yourselves...
Bin Challenge Slide
The care value I showed while presenting in assembly was Active Thinking because I relieved that I wasn't beside the person. Was presenting with so i subtlety moved beside them so we could share the microphone.

Drums - Merit Blog Post #11

This week at my drum lesson I have been continuing on learning "L.A Devotee" Panic! At The Disco. (Yes, the song from my home learning challenge). This beat is probably on of the most difficult and exhilarating beats I have ever learnt, it's so difficult to remember throughout the entire song because it's a kick, kick, double kick and then a another repeat if each... well that's in simple language. The care value I showed at my drum lesson was Active Thinking because when I kept doing the beat over and over agin I decided to do some historic beats that I had already learn so I didn't suddenly forgot the other beat.

A10. Volunteer at a local place - Merit Blog Post #10

Lately I have been volunteering at the shop right outside of dress smart named "The Rock Shop". The way I started volunteering there is because my brother who was looking for a job applyed for the job yet didn't get it, I went in and asked if they needed help with cleaning the instruments or making up displays. I have to say that they looked surprised. But then we just started talking and as soon as she heard my mums name come up it turned out they had worked together. So now I clean the instruments whenever I got there and in return I get to play on the drums. I like this deal very much and I enjoy talking to he customers too.

Drums - Merit Blog Post #8

This week at drums I told nick (My drum teacher) that I was going to audition for the brand new Oakland's school band. He was glad to hear that because then I could show him the songs and beats that I learn in the songs the bands did. Today I auditioned for mister Rule and I heard rumors that I got a 10/10 on his chart. The care values I showed at my drum lesson and at the drum audition is Community because I listened to everybody who went before me and clapped for everybody.

Creating The Bin Slide For Assembly - Merit Blog Post #7

This entire week (including today), all of the house captains have contributed in creating a slide that we will present in assembly to introduce the bins to the school. In the slide we will be explaining why we are doing this and how you can collect house points and pozis by putting your litter in the bin slots. The care value I showed while making this slide is Respect because I respected everybodys ideas even if I didn't agree with some of them.
