Te Reo, Term 4 2016.

This term we have been learning all about the Marae. We have learned that…….

• The Marae is an important focal point for the community.
• The Marea is a place where tradition and customs can be carried out.
• The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
• There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.
• Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between maraes and iwi.

We have focused on some key concepts when doing this learning.

These are listed and explained in the table below.

Concept	Definition - give the meaning of these concepts in your own words.
Tikanga	Tikanga means Culture or "the way we do things" so it would be like us explaining stuff to a reliever so they know what we do in the classroom.
Pōwhiri	Is a ceremony involving speeches, dancing and singing to welcome important people.
Tangata whenua	used to describe the Maori that were originally here first.
Manuhiri	A visitor to Maori marae.
Tūrangawaewae	is a place where people feel connected and powerful.
Whanaungatanga	it can mean that you are in the process of meeting new people.
Manaakitanga	is translated to "hospitality" and is used for inspiring people.
Aroha	a love for something/someone.

Something I would like to learn more about the marae is……... how important do the people they are welcoming have to be?

My Care Progress So Far

The CARE award that I am working towards is: Silver  

The one area of CARE that I am doing best in is: Classroom           because: That is the one where I fill up first.

The one area of CARE that I need to work harder in is: playground            because: I never really get pozi's because I never join in the PALS games.

To show my leadership qualities I am a role model to others in the CARE values by doing/showing these leadership traits: Active Thinking, Honesty, Goal Focused E.T.C

On the CARE SOLO matrix below I am at this SOLO level: Relational            because: I can get ticks easily but I don't really help others to work towards it.
